LKD will present a choreographic showing, plus artist talk-back, on Sunday, November 13th, 2016, at 2:00pm. All events will take place in Studio 323 (3rd Floor) at the Greensboro Cultural Center, located at 200 N. Davie Street in downtown Greensboro, NC. The event is free and open to the public. The artist talk-back will take place immediately following the performance, where artists will discuss the choreographic process of the works presented, plus answer any questions from audience members.
Artistic Director and choreographer, Lindsey Kelley Brewer, will perform alongside company members Ashleigh Gurtler and Kathleen Hahn. The trio will present two works throughout the showing, both of which have been revisited and reworked since their inception.
TURK:TURQ, inspired by the unique upbringing of Brewer’s mother on the Turks and Caicos Islands, debuted as a solo at the 2016 Sarus Festival in Wilmington, NC. The entire piece is an accumulative progression. The trio version contains complex moving parts, including entrance and exit patterns linking each phrase together seamlessly. LKD will also perform a revisited duet, Close Divide/Unison Shim Sham, which was created for the company’s debut evening-length performance in 2014. Brewer has since woven the original phrase work into a mix of technicality, proximity play, and meticulously crafted timing. Close Divide/Unison Shim Sham is performed with honest intent to display its simplistic nature and effortless effervescence.
Brewer’s goal in presenting this event is to expose Greensboro dance enthusiasts and art supporters to her company’s work, with plans of returning to perform an evening-length production in the Greensboro area in the future.
